Tralac aims to enhance the trade law and policy capacity in this region.
The tralac Board provides governance oversight and the tralac Advisory Board provides strategic leadership for the organisation.
Tralac’s training programmes include both tailored short courses and postgraduate academic programmes.

tralac is a public benefit organisation, established in 2002, with the financial support of the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO). tralac has a core network business model, a team of expert trade lawyers and economists, and professional support staff. tralac’s network of associates provides specialist expertise to enhance its capacity to deliver capacity-building initiatives. Since tralac is primarily donor funded, good governance assurance is a primary concern for the organisation. He is a doctoral candidate in investment law at the University of the Western Cape. His research interests include investment law, international trade law, regional economic integration and international commercial arbitration. He holds a National Diploma in Cost and Management Accounting from the Cape Technikon, as well as a Certificate in Management Development Programme from the University of Stellenbosch Business School. Before joining tralac, he spent 6 years in corporate business with Distell and 5 years with a medium size enterprise, Anglo American Farms, where he gained valuable experience in the fields of financial accounting, costing and operations. She holds a Bachelors degree in accounting sciences from the University of Cape Town as well as a Postgraduate Diploma in Risk Management from the University of South Africa. Tarik will be focusing in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) developments in Africa and how capacity building in ICTs could be used to develop trade in, and among, the regional economic communities as well as the long term benefits of ICTs in education, health and empowering rural communities in Africa. She joined tralac in 2005, having previously worked in the public and private sectors in various capacities including training, administration and human resources. She ensures that we have a pleasant and welcoming work environment at tralac. tralac develops and delivers focused short courses, often at the request of specific clients to address specific training needs. WTO Agreements (Trade in Goods (including agriculture), Trade in Services, TRIPS) Gerhard Erasmus is a founder of tralac and Professor Emeritus (Law Faculty), University of Stellenbosch. He has consulted for governments, the private sector and regional organisations in southern Africa. He has also been involved in the drafting of the South African and Namibian constitutions. She previously worked at the Western Cape Department of Agriculture as manager of the Macro-economics Division in the Agricultural Economics Programme, and as the project leader of the Provincial Decision-making Enabling (PROVIDE) Project. He came to South Africa in 2005 following a career as an economist with New Zealand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, and has since worked extensively on trade-related issues in southern Africa. He holds a PhD in Economics from Oregon State University and currently resides in Christchurch, New Zealand.
