Situated on the slopes of the Papegaaiberg, the Oude Libertas Amphitheatre overlooks the magnificent Stellenbosch mountain range.

Situated on the slopes of the Papegaaiberg, surrounded by vineyards and oak trees, the Oude Libertas offers you a collection of theatre and lifestyle experiences as well as a vital insight into community and environmental development initiatives. Our Corporate Social Investment programme which operates under the Distell Foundation focuses on the general well-being of South African communities, beginning with unborn children and extending into adulthood. Of the four key areas that we focus on, Foetal Alcohol Spectrum disorder (FASD) and Youth Development are the most important. Common to all the initiatives in which we invest, is the intention to contribute holistically to personal growth within communities, embracing mindful and responsible living and conservation. Individual triumphs and successes is what we aim for when presenting the brimming young talent of our country. Some of these talents will be showcased from time to time as a curtain raiser for other shows. In this way audiences are able to experience first-hand the fascinating results of a bit of musical CSI, corporate social investment, each displaying its own splendor. There are few experiences that can equal the sense of new life surging through one’s veins after a long period of heart failure, accompanied by exhaustion, depression and the prospect of imminent death. Will they find a heart for him in time to save his life? When their professional relationship grows into love, they are faced with a challenging personal situation. These dancers had International competitors crying and bewildered. Never in South African history has this dance form ever won any awards let alone an International World Class Competition! Do NOT miss this fresh wonderful performance with footwork better than Michael Flatly and an indigenous band playing original instruments. The revival of Riel dance in and around Wupperthal is a community initiative close to the heart of Bushmans Kloof and Floris Smith.
