HB Architects is a small, tightly knit practice offering full architectural, urban and interior design expertise with specialist knowledge of conservation buildings in the Western Cape.

Adaptive re-use of heritage resources within acceptable local and international standards. Fine attention is given to each project, no matter the scale. Our professional services and fees are aligned with the most recent South African Council for the Architectural Profession Client/Architect Agreements, and we abide by the Council’s Code of Ethics. Residence built on vacant site with very onerous development and height restrictions, optimized to capture the breath-taking views of the bay and mountains beyond. Continuous conservation and upgrading of heritage buildings on the historic farmstead, beginning in Historical and technical survey of derelict timber structure for planned replacement by City of Cape Town. Heritage survey of an early Cape cottage, with remedial proposals for damaged material or inappropriate later alterations and additions. Upgrading of suites and back-of-house facilities with very restrictive spatial constraints, within a very limited time-frame. Advisor to the Church for motivating the declaration of the historic building and site as a National Heritage Site, including formulating the outline for an Integrated Conservation Management Plan. Remodelling of restaurant/food market facilities in structure designed and constructed by our practice in Restoration guidelines for the historic Cape homestead, and Integrated Conservation Management Plan to guide development and preserve the landscape of the surrounding estate. Restoration of historic building, including upgrading of office fit-out to interior. New residence with restrictive development constraints on a vacant site, with client requiring privacy as far as possible within the suburban context, and unlimited views across the bay.
